Mining Emergency Communication Solution
For complex environments (underground, open-pit), a broadband–narrowband converged solution: DMR narrowband baseline + LTE/5G broadband private network + unified dispatch.
3 common mining comms problems
- 01
Many underground dead zones:Complex roadways and metal structures make full coverage hard.
- 02
Narrowband cannot carry data:Video surveillance, personnel locating and environment monitoring need broadband.
- 03
Fragmented systems:Radio, dispatch and monitoring are separate; low emergency efficiency.
KINGTONE mining solution
Narrowband baseline; above/below ground DMR intercom.
EPC/5GC + LTE/5G base station for video and data.
Fiber to the face; low power, scalable, NMS-managed.
Converged narrowband+broadband dispatch: voice + video + locating on one map.
Typical project parameters
| Parameter | Reference value |
|---|---|
| Coverage | Underground roadways + open-pit pit |
| Network | DMR + LTE/5G private network |
| Terminals | 100–1000 units |
| Lead time | 30–90 working days |
Figures above are reference values from comparable projects; final configuration is subject to on-site survey and the contracted technical agreement.
Case brief
A metal mine (underground) deployed RS3500 digital repeaters + KT-B broadband private network + CV410 all-optical network + S300 dispatch: full underground DMR coverage, personnel locating and video backhaul, unified emergency dispatch on one map.
What the mine actually needs, and how it is built
The three deployment tiers below are the practical decision: how much of the system is needed depends on whether the site needs voice only, needs broadband coverage, or needs narrowband and broadband converged on one platform.
INDUSTRY PAIN POINTS
Limited network coverage
Underground coverage in coal mines is limited. Especially in deep shafts and complex geological conditions, signal transmission is unstable, which affects communication quality.
Large equipment investment
Mine communication equipment requires significant investment. Leaky-cable systems in particular need large numbers of repeaters and leaky cables, raising operating cost.
Low level of intelligence
Existing communication systems have a low level of intelligence, relying mainly on analog communication and manual operation. This is hard to reconcile with the need for efficient dispatch and situational awareness.
A smart mine solution combining DMR, private 4G, private 5G, Wi-Fi and multi-system fibre-optic repeater technology. It meets the mine voice communication requirement and also carries data connections for smart sensors, video and audio — particularly suited to large-scale real-time connection to services such as automatic control, remote control, temperature and humidity collection, hazardous gas detection, automated production, underground positioning and cluster dispatch.
TIERED DEPLOYMENT OPTIONS
T1Voice only — DMR over fibre
solution p.11The customer needs voice communication only.
DMR base station plus DMR fibre-optic repeaters, covering the underground roadways and the ground command centre.
Off-air fibre-optic repeater system
T2Broadband coverage — Micro-DAS
solution p.16LTE and NR data coverage is required indoors and in tunnels, with IoT access points along the way.
Micro-DAS built from a main unit, extension units and remote units. The remote unit carries an embedded edge computing server and provides Wi-Fi access, so the coverage area becomes an IoT endpoint rather than just a radio zone.
Micro-DAS — one-drive-four and one-drive-eight networking
T3Narrowband and broadband unified
solution p.22The site runs narrowband voice, broadband data, IoT sensing and video at the same time, and needs one converged platform rather than separate systems.
A multi-band fibre-optic repeater system carrying DMR repeaters and a 4G/5G base station over the same optical backbone, with splitters, an OMC server, a 4G/5G core network and a scheduling server, plus Wi-Fi 6. The signal source can be off-air or BTS-coupled. FM radio and emergency broadcast are carried in the same design.

VISUAL OPERATIONS
- Electronic map shows device location — with network connection, the geographic position of each small station is displayed from its latitude and longitude
- Device cascading relationships visualised — extension uplink port numbers, remote uplink extension port numbers and cascading information are all shown
- Device status visualised — online / offline / alarm prompts, alarm management, event management and batch data collection
HANDSETS
RADIO INTERWORK
The ME02 gateway connects analog radio, DMR and PoC radio systems into one — so that different radio generations at the mine site can talk to each other, and to the dispatch centre, over a single interface.
